Safety switches and RCDs Adelaide
protection for the circuits that need it.
Safety switches are designed to disconnect supply when certain leakage faults occur. Correct selection, circuit identification and testing are essential when protection is added or a recurring trip is investigated.

WHY VIRA ELECTRICAL
Clear scope.
Careful work.
Proper testing.
Recurring trips are investigated methodically rather than assuming the safety switch itself is faulty.
Installed protection is tested and circuit information is updated as part of the completed scope.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Useful details
before you book.
What is the difference between an RCD and an RCBO?+
An RCD provides leakage-current protection, while an RCBO combines leakage protection with overcurrent protection for the circuit. The appropriate device depends on the installation.
Why does my safety switch keep tripping?+
Possible causes include a faulty appliance, moisture, damaged wiring, insulation leakage or a circuit fault. Testing is needed to identify the actual cause.
Can I reset a safety switch after it trips?+
A single reset may restore supply after removing a faulty appliance, but repeated tripping should be investigated. Do not keep resetting it if there are signs of heat, damage, smell or moisture.
How do you test an RCD after installation?+
The completed work includes relevant verification and an instrument operating-time test, along with checking the test-button operation.
Can you add safety switches to an older switchboard?+
Sometimes, but the switchboard condition, space, wiring and existing protection must be assessed. A broader switchboard upgrade may be recommended where the existing arrangement is unsuitable.
